APDM was featured in a recent article in the Portland Business Journal.

Outlined in the article are brief descriptions of APDM’s work in both the medical and athletic fields.

APDM’s work with the US Diving and Gymnastics teams provides a good example of the capabilities of Opal wearable sensors for athletic use.

Author Elizabeth Hayes writes “If the U.S. diving and gymnastics teams medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, a small Portland company will not only cheer but may rightfully feel kind of proud. APDM Wearable Technologies has supplied the teams with customized sensors to aid in their training and give coaches real-time, objective feedback on the athletes’ strengths and weaknesses.”

APDM’s conception and original application is highlighted as well, sharing history and current endeavors in Movement Disorder research.

“Researchers worldwide have used APDM’s Mobility Lab to measure gait and balance, with more than 25,000 research subjects analyzed. Most research has been in movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis, but also in cases of strokes, injury and cancer.”

“APDM is also getting the technology into the clinical environment. Providence Health & Services is using Mobility Lab to diagnose and treat elderly patients and those who have neurological impairments.

“It gives us a lot more specificity,” said Justin Weatherford, Providence’s regional service line manager for outpatient therapy services in Oregon. “Patients really like that. They’re much more engaged in their sessions.'”

This article greatly shows APDM’s ability to measure quantity and quality of human movement.
